About
I'm Shanti — a chef-turned-developer based in Japan.
I write about how I learn to code, build digital products, and help English-speaking businesses find their place in the Japanese market.
The story
I started learning to code because I needed a way out and a way forward. Not out of curiosity — out of necessity. I am a Master Chef working full-time at a Japanese restaurant chain in Yokohama, and I decided that software engineering would be my fallback, my freedom, and eventually my future.
Every line of code I write happens between shifts, after long days on my feet, and often late at night when the house is quiet. It is not the easiest path. But it is mine.
I am building shandigital.dev as my business empire — one domain to hold everything I create. Dev tutorials written as I learn them. Fiction and stories born from curiosity and what-ifs. Digital products and freelance work for clients who want Japan done right.
I do not have a computer science degree. I do not have a mentor. I have determination, a love for writing, and a deep belief that showing up every day — even imperfectly — compounds into something real.
What I do
Build software
Full-stack web applications using Next.js, React, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, and Tailwind. Built in public, documented honestly.
Write
Dev learning posts, fiction, and creative stories. Everything lives on this blog. No filter, no polish — just the real journey.
Help businesses reach their market in Japan
Web development and Japan localization for English-speaking businesses. I bridge the gap between markets as someone who lives it daily.
